Unintentionally Uttering Words Of Kufr While Reciting the Quraan-e-Majeed

Question

Can incorrect recitation render a person to act of kufr? For example, in Surah 56 in ayaah no 75, 76 if anybody accidentally prolongs the alif thereby laaqasamun and laaquraanun becoming  respectively; what is the consequence in salah or outside salah to reading incorrect way making the meaning opposite?

Answer

Unintentionally/accidentally reciting the Holy Qur’an incorrectly whether in or out of Salaah will not render a person a Kaafir.

However, reciting a word incorrectly to such an effect that it portrays a meaning converse to the meaning intended (as is the case in the example that you cited) will cause the Salaah to break and that particular Salaah will have to be repeated. In the case where a person is an Imaam and he is corrected by the Muqtadees (those following him), then too the Salaah will break and will have to be repeated.

The same ruling will not apply if the mistake then subsequent correction has to occur in Taraweeh Salaah, since completion of the Qur’an is the objective and in so doing, mistakes are common.
