Question
If I am laying down can I play a Quran recital and listen?
Can the recording continue playing if I fall asleep?
Answer
A person should not listen to the Quraan Shareef if he fears he will fall off to sleep.
Allah Ta’aala says in the Quraan-Majeed:
And when the Qur’aan is recited then listen to it attentively and remain silent so that mercy be shown upon you
[al-Aʿraaf: 204]
In another Aayah, Allah Ta’aala says:
O mankind! Indeed, there has come to you from your Rabb an admonition, a cure [for the diseases] of what is in the hearts, a guidance and mercy for the believers
[Yunus: 57]
Allah Ta’aala has explained the great benefits which are to be found in the Qur’aan Shareef in this Aayah, and has explained the manner of benefitting from them in the previous Aayah, i.e., by listening attentively and remaining quiet. Listening to the Quraan Shareef while lying down (when there is the strong likelihood of falling asleep) and thereafter actually falling asleep will go against the manner explained in these verses of how to benefit from the Quraan Shareef.
The Quraan Shareef deserves utmost respect, therefore a person should refrain from listening to the Quraan Shareef in such a state when a person due to fatigue, feels that he will fall asleep while lying down.
