Question
What is the world of souls and is it real?
Answer
The world of the souls refers to that place where every human being gathered prior to making appearance on earth. Allah Ta’aala mentions in verse 172 of Surah A’raaf, that every human replied by saying that Allah is his Rabb when questioned, “Who is your Rabb?” This confession occurred in the realm of the souls (but we do not remember.)
Some have even raised the objection, how was it possible for the entire mankind to gather at once in the realm of the souls? The answer given is that the human beings were not in their current form (in which they exist in the world), rather they were in the form of little ants. This is proven from a narration of Abu Darda Radiallahu Anhu. This is not something far-fetched or difficult for us to understand in this day and age when huge files and perhaps libraries are stored in a micro chip.
So, in conclusion the realm of the souls is no fairy tale rather a reality. For further details on this subject you may refer to Ma’ariful Quraan, Pg.112-114 Vol.4.
