Allah Is Everywhere

Question

At times a question arises, Where is Allah because in Quran its comes Allah is with you wherever you are. Some say its with you ilman. Could you please give me a detailed answer

Answer

As alluded to by Hadhrat Mufti Mahmood Hasan Saheb Gangohi Rahmatullahi below, the absolute knowledge of Allah Ta’aala is intended by the statement “Allah Ta’aala is everywhere”. Hadhrat Mufti Saheb Rahmatullahi Alayhi mentions:  “It is the Aqeedah of the Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama’ah that Allah Ta’aala is everywhere, meaning that He is the Knower of every facet, large or small, and that absolutely nothing is hidden from Him. This is established from unambiguous sources and definite proofs. Allah Ta’aala says,

لا يعزب عنه مثقال ذرة فى السماوات ولا فى الارض ولا اصغر ولا اكبر الا فى كتاب مبين

Translation: Not even (something that equals) the weight of an atom in the heavens and the earth can hide from Him. Everything smaller (than an atom) and everything larger is (recorded) in the Clear Book (Lowhul Mahfoodh)

Surah Saba 34:3

Unlike other things, Allah Ta’aala is not confined to a specific place, because Allah Ta’aala is not spatial (relating to, occupying, or having the character of space). He is eternal and time and space are His creation. How can Allah Ta Ala be confined within a place?

ولا محدود ولا معدود ولا متبعض ولا متجز ولا شريك منها ولا يجرى عليه الزمان ( شرح عقائد نسفى صـ 32)

In some texts where a specific place is indicated to, the intended meaning is not that the place encompasses Allah Ta’aala, rather the intended meaning is, the manifestation of Allah Ta Ala’s Attribute of Knowledge (or some other Attribute) in that place.” (Fatawa Mahmoodiyah Vol.1 Pg.244) Declaring that Allah Ta Ala is literally “with you wherever you are” implies that Allah Ta’aala exists within the confines of time, space and direction which are all the creation of Allah Ta Ala and are restricted entities. Allah Ta’aala cannot be constrained within His creation. Likening Allah Ta’aala to any material existence would be an act of Kufr (disbelief) due to assimilating Allah Ta’aala to the creation.
