Question
If a person is invited for a birthday party, it’s haraam, but can they eat the cake or food from there. Is the ruling the same if someone is celebrating a birthday tonight and their birthday was in the past. Then will it be permissible to partake of the cake/food there?
Answer
It is not permissible to celebrate birthdays in Islaam, be it on the exact date or any time before or after.
Part of the birthday celebration is to have a birthday cake. To dissuade family members from this custom, a person should not eat the cake. This is the safest position to adopt as it will save the Muslims from emulating the non-Muslims in their festivals and celebrations.
However, if the ingredients of the cake/food are Halaal, the cake/food will be Halaal.
