Question
If a person has for example R60000 in a bank account due to which he earns interest of R8000 over a period of 2 years, can he take the same amount of money (R8000) which he has in cash and give it with the intention of it being the interest money he has in the bank or does he have to take the money out of the bank?
Answer
He will have to remove the R8000.00 from the bank and dispose this amount in charity to a poor person (recipient of Zakaat) without any intention of reward. He should not suffice on removing the funds from his personal funds and disposing of it in lieu of the interest accrued and left behind in his bank account.
