Question
Is it permissible to eat the vegetable dish or fruit platter on a flight?
Answer
Abstaining from Haraam food is one of the utmost important facets in the life of a believer and there are great spiritual side effects that emanate from eating Haram food; therefore, great care and precaution should be taken to eat only Halal foods.
In the enquired case, it will be allowed to consume fruit platters in flights with the proviso that there was no contamination with Haram food/items. If you are assured that there was no contamination with Haram items, you may consume the fruit platters and if there is a doubt of contamination, one should exercise caution and carry his/her meals along.
With regard to the veg meal there is fear of contamination because of the cooking required for that meal which brings it closer to the other non-halal cooked meals; therefore, it is best to abstain.
