Facing A Qurbani Animal Towards The Qiblah

Question

I am aware that the Qurbani animal should preferably face Qiblah. (Mustahab)

Kindly advise on which side should the Qurbani animal be placed; on the Qurbani animal’s right side or left side? And what is the status of this? (Sunnah, mustahab etc.)

By extension, please advise if the above answer will apply to any dhabah even if not Qurbani.

Answer

The Qurbani animal should be facing the Qiblah, with the slaughterer also positioned towards the Qiblah. There is no specific ruling with regards to placing the animal either on the right or left side; the important thing is its alignment with the Qiblah, achievable by positioning it on either side. However, for greater convenience in the slaughtering process, it is recommended to place the animal on its left side while facing the Qiblah.

This will apply to both Qurbani and also for any Dhabah.
