Question
Here in ____ our jamaat is in a crisis with regards to funds. The community wants to host a golf day, raising funds for the Jamaat, they say that in ____ it was done 3 years in a row, raising almost a million rands every year.
Last year the same thing was suggested, few Aalims in the town said no.
Will it be permissible?
People who participate actually sponsor a whole for approximately 500.00 Rands.
Answer
We are not in favour of hosting such sporting events with the sole objective of raising funds for our institutes. Although the objective may be noble but there are many Fitnas and Haraam practices that go with it, hence it must be discarded.
Brothers of the locality should be encouraged to spend purely for the pleasure of Allah and the Alim of the town should discuss the virtue and rewards of spending on the House of Allah Ta’aala and Madrasah, etc. during his discourses. Also, a person could be employed to collect funds (from various towns and provinces) for the Masjid and Madrasah if trustees are unable to meet the monthly running expenses of the institute/s.
Although another town may have hosted such an event in the past, it is no approval for us to be hosting a similar event particularly when the laws of Shariah will not be upheld. We as Muslims are required to abide by the laws of Shariah laid down by Allah and His Rasul Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam.
May Allah bless us with the correct understanding of Deen. Ameen!
