Every year I receive calendars with pictures of animals. I give it to non-muslims who appreciate it very much. They hang it on the walls of their home. Please advise if I am doing a wrongful action.
Gifting Calendars With Animal Pictures
Question
Answer
From the teachings of Islam, we learn that showing good character towards non-Muslims with the intention of drawing them towards Islam and showing them the beautiful teachings of Islam is an act of great virtue, we find this noble practice in the life of Rasulullaah Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam and the Sahabah Radiallahu Anhum as well.
It should however be borne in mind that to paint, draw, take, display, buy, sell or gift pictures of animate beings is impermissible in Shar’iah. Therefore, as Muslims gifting such types of calendars could be seen or understood as promoting imagery which is Haraam. It would thus be impermissible to give such types of gifts.
If however, one desires to gift such a calendar, he should then first erase/cut out the picture or cover it by placing a (non-removable) strong sticker on it and thereafter gifting it.
