Question
Is it permissible to host programs of a Qari who has:
- No beard.
- Wears his pants below his ankles.
Answer
We do not approve of Masjid committees and Deeni Madaris hosting Qurra that fall in the category of Fussaaq (transgressors of Shariah) due to the various reasons (such as shaving their beards, and wearing their pants below the ankles) which have been outlined in your query. Unfortunately, these Qurra are greatly honoured and their recitals highly praised whereas the Hadith states that when a Faasiq is praised it causes the Throne of Allah Ta’aala to shake.
Secondly, according to reports, many of the Eyptian Qurrah even charge a fee (which are many a times exorbitant amounts) for reciting Quraan, which is obviously impermissible according to the Fuqaha.
Thirdly, we have been truly blessed in this country with excellent Qurra that are well acquainted with the science of Qiraat and also recite very well. In our limited knowledge, we can safely state that a large number of our local Qurra observe the laws of Shariah which is apparent on their outer appearance, thus there isn’t a genuine need of inviting foreign Qurra that are unable to observe the proper Shari’ee code of dress. We therefore discourage the hosting of such recitals.
