Question
A person performs Salah without a hat (cap) due to laziness. Will this act be classed as Makruh, blameworthy or will there be no effect on his salah?
Answer
The Fuqaha have classed reading of Salaah without covering one’s head as Makrooh Tanzihi/unliked though not an obligation nor part of the conditions of Salaah being valid. However, to make a habit of performing Salaah bare-headed (without any valid excuse) would be regarded as highly detestable. A few texts with this regard are as follows:
(و صلاته حاسِرا) أي كاشفا (رأسه للتكاسل)
در المختار ج ١ ص ٦٤١ سعيد
Translation: And it is Makrooh to read Salaah with the head uncovered due to laziness (Fataawa Shaami)
(و) تكره و هو (مكشوف الرأس) تكاسلا لترك الوقار.
حاشية الطحطاوي علي مراقي الفلاح ص ٣٥٩ . قديمي
Translation: And reading Salaah with the head uncovered due to laziness is reprehensible as it is against
one’s dignity.

ننگے سر نماز پڑھنا اور پڑھانا جب کہ عمامہ اور ٹوپی موجود ہو مکروہ ہے ، معزز لباس پہن کر نماز پڑھنا اور پڑھانا چاہئے

Translation: Reading or leading Salaah bare headed when a topi or imaamah is available is reprehensible,
one should wear clothing that have honor and dignity when reading or leading Salaah
(Fataawa Mahmoodiyyah).
Note: The wearing of a qalansuwah/topee/turban is a Sunnah of Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam. One must affirm that there can be absolutely no doubt in the fact that each and every act (Sunnah) of our beloved Nabi sallallahu alaihi wasallam is considered supreme and well worthy of emulation by a true believer and follower of his esteemed life style. In fact a true lover of Nabi sallallahu alaihi wasallam would be prepared to give his life for the practical preservation of even one Sunnah. Such is the over whelming thirst for emulation present in a true Ummati that it does not matter to him whether the Sunnah is connected to ibaadah (the manner in which Nabi sallallahu alaihi wasallam carried out various acts of worship) or whether the Sunnah pertains to his habit or lifestyle (the manner of his speech, walking, eating, dressing etc). As long as it can be ascertained that our Nabi sallallahu alaihi wasallam did it, then a true Aashiq-e-Rasool
will go to any lengths to bring it into his life.
