What is the ruling on the selling of synthetic hair extensions and products?
Answer
It will be permissible to sell synthetic hair extensions, because it is permissible for a woman to use hair extensions which are made of the hair of goats, camels, and any other hair besides human and pig hair.
However, one is advised to abstain from selling these hair extensions, because even though they are not Haraam to use, they are a fashion trend of the Kuffaar. By one selling this he is promoting their lifestyle.
Our Fuqahaa have mentioned that even the use of hair extensions made of anything besides human hair for a woman is only permissible with the permission of her husband, so, if it is being used for beautification and adornment for anyone besides one’s husband it will be impermissible. We find that hair extensions sold are generally sold to those who use it for general beautification purposes, and for showing it off to the public, therefore one is advised to not sell such products.
