Sharing Class Notes


A student goes for tuition (which is paid for), and gets notes from the tutor. Is it permissible for the student to share these notes with other students? Will it be permissible for the other students not attending the tuition to use the notes and also share it?


The notes given to the student by the tutor belong to the student, hence sharing the notes with fellow students and friends (that are not part of the tuition class) will be permitted. However, if there is an agreement between the tutor and the student that the notes are not to be shared with others, rather they are solely for the benefit of the recipient and the student agreed and gave his pledge to the said agreement, then sharing the notes with others will not be correct in terms of Shariah as we as Muslims are instructed to uphold our pledges.
