Question
Is it necessary for a man when wearing a topi to cover the hair that comes or falls on the forehead as well?
This would mean that the topi is worn loosely in such a manner that some portion of the forelocks may remain exposed and some hair sticks out from the front of the topi.
Is this a permissible way to wear the topi or is it necessary to cover in such a way that all hair remains covered?
Answer
It is not necessary that the Topi be worn in such a manner that all the hair on the head is covered. However, in one’s clothing, appearance, hairstyle, etc. he should endeavour to follow the example of the pious people and distinguish himself from non-Muslims and open transgressors. Therefore, in
wearing the Topi also, one should follow the example of the pious and not adopt styles and fashions of those who are devoid of Din.
Rasulullah said, “Whoever takes resemblance to a certain group of people he will be considered to be from amongst them (in the sight of Allah Ta’aala).”
If it is worn the way the Jews wear their caps, it will be Makrooh.
