Question
I would like to enquire who I can give interest money away to. I have accumulated interest money from investments in shares.
Please advise if it can be given to Muslims or non-Muslims.
Answer
Interest money has to disposed of by giving it away in charity to the poor, without the intention of reaping Thawab (reward). When giving such funds away in charity, the most important factor is that one must not, under any circumstances, make an intention of earning reward.
It should ideally be given to poor Muslims who are eligible to accept Zakaat funds. It can however, also be given to poor and deserving non-Muslims. In either case, one should not make an intention of earning reward.
