Question
I would like to know if it’s advisable to pick up my Topy if it falls down whilst I am in Salaah.
And if it’s allowed the should only one hand be used or can 2 hands be used?
Answer
If one’s Topi falls down in Salaah, one must pick it up with one hand and put it on immediately in such a way that a person does not carry out an ʿAmal-e-Kathīr.
Definitions of ʿAmal-e-Kathīr:
ʿAllāmah Shāmi Rahmatullahi Alaih mentions that there is no contradiction in the three definitions that are mentioned in the Fiqh Kitābs:
- If an onlooker sees a person in Salaah and thinks he is not in Salaah
- Using both hands in Salaah
- Doing one action three times continuously in one Rukn.
The second two definitions are actually in harmony with the first definition. For instance, if a person uses both hands in Salaah or does one action three times continuously in one Rukn, then an onlooker will think that he is not in Salaah due to such actions which allude that one is not in Salaah.
