Utilizing Interest Funds In A Masjid

Question

Can a person use interest money to buy Quraan stands or fans for Masjid use? Everyone who comes to that Masjid will be able to take benefit from it.

Answer

Interest funds cannot be used to buy Qur’aan stands or fans for Masjid use.

Interest funds must be disposed of to poor Muslims that are eligible to receive Zakaat or to poor non-Muslims. Interest funds cannot be used in the Masaajid as it is a place of sanctity. The Muslim community should be encouraged to contribute (from their Halaal funds) towards the needs of the Masjid.
