Uttering Three Talaaq In Anger

Question

A person in anger uttered to his wife Allah is my witness I give you talaaq three times with no and between each one.

What is the Sharia ruling regarding this?

Answer

From the wording of your question, it is unclear whether this person said, “Allah is my witness I give you Talaaq three times.” or he said, “Allah is my witness I give you Talaaq. Allah is my witness I give you Talaaq. Allah is my witness I give you Talaaq.” That is, he repeated this statement three times.

However, in both cases three (3) Talaaqs would have occurred. His state of anger does not affect the situation, it is in anger that Talaaq is usually given. The Shariah ruling with regards to this situation, wherein three Talaaqs occurred, is that he cannot remarry this woman unless she gets married to someone else, consummates the marriage and is thereafter divorced or widowed, then passes her Iddah.
