Visiting The Graveyard On The Day Of Eid

Question

What is the ruling with regard to visiting the graveyard on the day of Eid?

Answer

The day of Eid is one of happiness and rejoice, however sometimes whilst in this state of happiness people tend to become unwary and negligent of the Aakhirah. The visiting of the graveyard eradicates this negligence. For this reason, it is considered correct and appropriate for a person to visit the graveyard on the day of Eid. There is no issue in this. However, to make it binding and necessary even by way of actions only, that it causes others to assume it to be obligatory, is incorrect. Furthermore, it is incorrect to condemn or even secretly despise a person who does not visit the graveyard on such a day. It is highly imperative to abstain from this type of scorn.
