Washing The Limbs Thrice When Using A Mudd

Question

When making Wudhu with a Mudd, when one washes ones arms, someone said that if you scoop once the you just have to rub the 2nd and 3rd time. You don’t have to take new water to wash the arms thrice. Is this correct?

Or does one have to take new water each time?

Answer

One must use new water each time to complete the Sunnah of washing the limbs of wudhu thrice.

(ومنها) : التثليث في الغسل، وهو أن يغسل أعضاء الوضوء ثلاثا ثلاثا؛ لما روي أن رسول الله – صلى الله عليه وسلم – «توضأ مرة مرة وقال: هذا وضوء لا يقبل الله الصلاة إلا به، وتوضأ مرتين مرتين وقال: هذا وضوء من يضاعف الله له الأجر مرتين، وتوضأ ثلاثا ثلاثا وقال: هذا وضوئي، ووضوء الأنبياء من قبلي فمن زاد على هذا، أو نقص فقد تعدى وظلم» ، وفي رواية «فمن زاد، أو نقص فهو من المعتدين» (بدائع الصنائع في ترتيب الشرائع 1/113 رشيديه)
