Question
My niece is now 12 years old and has reached the age of puberty, will she have to give Sadaqatul Fitr?
Answer
Sadaqatul-Fitr is Waajib on every Muslim who, on the day of Eidul-Fitr, possesses wealth to the value of Nisaab, in excess of their basic necessities, after subtracting their debt.
Sadaqatul Fitr will have to be discharged on behalf of children by the father/guardian if they are minor. As for the mature it must be discharged from their own money, although if the father/guardian discharged on behalf of their mature children with their permission then too it will be acceptable.
