Question
Is it necessary for a woman to cover the chin during Salaah according to the Ahnaaf? Would the Salaah become invalid if not covered?
Answer
Covering the Awrah in Salaah is necessary for the validity of Salaah. For purposes of Salaah, the Awrah of a woman is her entire body except her face, hands, and feet. The face is defined as the area between the hairline to the bottom of the chin in length and between the earlobes in width.
Based on this definition of the face and based on the fact that the face does not need to be covered in Salaah, it follows then, that covering the chin in Salaah is not a requirement for the validity of Salaah. However, due care should be taken to ensure that no part of the throat is exposed during Salaah.

(وَهُوَ مُشْتَقٌ مِنْ المُوَاجَهَةِ، وَاشْتِقَاقُ الثَّلَاثِيِّ مِنْ الْمَزِيدِ إِذَا كَانَ أَشْهَرَ فِي الْمَعْنَى شَائِعٌ كَاشْتِقَاقِ الرَّعْدِ مِنْ الْإِرْتِعَادِ وَالْيَمِّ مِنْ التَّيَمُّمِ (مِنْ مبدأ سَطْحِ جَبْهَتِهِ) أَيْ الْمُتَوَضَّئِ بِقَرِينَةِ الْمَقَامِ إِلَى أَسْفَلِ ذَقَنِهِ)

والذقن بفتحتين مجتمع العظمين اللذين هما منبتا الأسنان كذا في القاموس ويفهم من زيادة الأسفل أن الذقن داخل في الوجه وقد ذكر في الذخيرة في فصل الشجاج ان الذقن من الوجه بلا خلاف واما اللحيان فمن الوجه عندنا
