Zakaat On Sheep Bought For Resale

Question

If a person buys a few sheep with intention of resale and he has them for a year, does he have to pay Zakaat on them?

Answer

Yes, he will have to pay Zakaah on the Sheep. This is so because the sheep are considered to be items of trade. Therefore, even if there are less than 40 sheep, as long as a year has elapsed on them and their total amount reaches the Nisaab then it will be compulsory to discharge the Zakaah on the market value of the sheep.
