Missing The Second Sajdah In A Rakaat

Question

If one forgets to perform the second Sajdah in a rakaat and remembers before completing the Salaah, how should it be compensated for?

Answer

The Sajdah posture of Salaah is a Fardh. To perform the second Sajdah in every Rakaat before moving over to another posture is Waajib. If a person omits the second Sajdah then the Sajdah has to be repeated even if it is done after the Qa’dah Akheera or even after Salaam as long as a person hasn’t indulged in any form of conversation or action contrary to the requirements of Salaah.

However, after performing the missed Sajdah, the Musalli should repeat the Qa’dah Akheerah and make Salaam after Tashahhud, then make Sajdah-e-Sahw, sit in the final sitting posture once again, recite the Tashahhud and Durood etc. and then make the final Salaam.
