Selling Mother’s Day Gifts

Question

I want to know if I can only make and sell mothers day gifts for an income?

Answer

It is not permissible to sell only mother`s day gifts for income. Since your sole intention is for mother’s day, this is tantamount to venerating this non-Muslim festival and assisting in sin. Both of which are impermissible in Islaam. Allah Ta’aala mentions in Surah 5:2;

Translation: “Help each other in righteousness and piety, and do not help each other in sin and aggression. Fear Allah. Surely Allah is severe at punishment.”

Therefore, as a woman, if you are obliged to do something for a living, you should do so within the ambit of the Shari`ah. This will earn you the pleasure of Allaah Ta’aala and whatever you earned will contain copious Barakah (blessings). This will also protect you from the anger of Allaah Ta’aala and His punishment.
