Question
Can a non baligh child read a part of a juz if the khatam is being read for a purpose eg esaale thawaab?
Answer
In essence, Esaale-Thawaab can be read by any understanding person for the living or dead. Based on this, the recitation of Quraan by an understanding non-baaligh child for the deceased will be regarded as Esaale-Thawaab and is permissible. Regarding making Quraan Khatams for the deceased, it would be better if this could be done on an individual basis and according to one’s capacity (not by invitation, in groups).
