Question
A person is Mazoor. He is so weak that he is unable to wash himself. He is only able to achieve cleanliness if he assisted by someone.
Due to being Mazoor, if any impurity comes on to his clothing, does he have to take assistance and have it cleaned or can he leave it?
Answer
A Ma’zoor who is weak to such an extent that he is unable to change/wash impure clothing or cannot stay for
a duration of one complete Salaah without spoiling his clothing, will not be obliged to change/wash the
clothing, Salaah can be read in this condition.
مريض تحته ثياب نجسة، وكلما بسط شيئا تنجس من ساعته صلي علي حاله، وكذا لو لم يتنجس إلا انه يلحقه مشقة بتحريكه. (حشية ابن عابدين باب صلاة المريض (۲۸۲/۱)
Translation; A sick person who is in such a state that due to bodily discharges his clothing become impure at all times, will read his Salaah in that state. Similar ruling will apply if the clothing is not affected, however pain and discomfort is endured due to changing.
اگر کپڑا دھونے یا بدلنے کے بعد نماز ختم کرنے سے پہلے تر ہو جائے تو اسکا بدلنا یا دھونا واجب نہیں ہے۔
و ان سال علي ثوبه فوق الدرهم جاز له ان لا يغسل ان كان لو غسل تنجس قبل الفراغ منها اي الصلاة. (احسن الفتاوي (٧٥/٢)
Translation; If a Ma’zoor washes/changes his clothing and before completing Salaah they become impure again then he will not be obliged to wash/change his clothes.
رہا کپڑا پاک کرنے کا حکم اس میں تفصیل یہ ہے کہ اگر کپڑے کا دھونا مفید ہوتا ہے کہ اگر دھو کر نماز پڑھے تو نماز کے درمیان دوبارہ ناپاک نہ ہو تا ہو تب تو اسکے ذمہ دھونا واجب ہے ، اور اگر مفید نہ ہو یعنی یہ حالت ہو کہ کپڑا دھو کر نماز کے درمیان پھر ناپاک ہو جائے تو دھونا واجب نہیں ہے۔
Translation; As for the clothes of a Ma’zoor, if washing is beneficial i.e. Salaah can be performed in the clean clothes without them becoming impure again then it will be incumbent upon the person to wash the impurity. If washing is of no benefit i.e. clothing will still get impure even during Salaah then there will be no need to change them.
From the above texts it is clear that:
1. If a person’s (Ma’zoor) clothing cannot stay pure for a duration of one complete Salaah, washing the clothing will not be necessary.
2. If a person is too weak or sick that he endures pain and discomfort in changing all the time, then too will he be excused from washing.
In conclusion in the case of any of the above situations the Ma’zoor does not have to take assistance and have his clothing cleaned.
