Allah Ta’aala Using The Pronoun “We” When Referring To Himself In The Quraan-e-Majeed

There are many verses in the Quraan where Allah Ta’aala refers to Himself using the Arabic Pronoun “نحن” literally meaning “We” or its associated suffix. In Arabic the Pronoun “نحن“does not necessary imply plurality. It can also indicate the speaker’s lofty status, greatness and power. Thus, when Allah Ta’aala uses the pronoun “نحن” meaning “We” or its associated suffix then it is used to express His Greatness.

A similar concept known as “the royal we” or majestic plural” can be found in the English language. However, this concept is confined to using a plural pronoun by a single person who is a monarch. So when a monarch or king uses the pronoun “we” he is showing his might and power, even though he may have done a certain action on his own. Allah Ta’aala is the King of all kings, so all the more reason that He has the right to use the pronoun “We” to indicate His Greatness and Supremacy
