An Imaam Leading The Salaah Without Wudhu

Question

I’m a Hafiz and I once lead namaz without wudhu in a masjid full of people. I did not realize that I didn’t have wudhu till I reached towards the end of the namaz. But I didn’t tell the people to repeat their namaz. I’m guilty of what I did. Now what should I do? Please help.

Answer

You acted wrongly by not informing the people to repeat the Salaah, in fact this should have been done as soon as you realized your predicament. There is absolutely no humiliation in informing the congregation that Salaah needs to be repeated. After all, we are all human beings and prone to err, hence if such an error does occur in future then do inform the congregation immediately.

However, you should now put up a notice on the Masjid board or circulate a Whatsapp message in the town if it proves instrumental in getting the message across to the masses informing them to repeat the Salaah performed on the particular date. There is no need to provide reasoning as to why the Salaah should be repeated.
