Question
A British citizen has money in a bank in Bangladesh. Does he pay his Zakah according to its rate in Britain or in Bangladesh?
Answer
The Zakaat will be calculated according to the total amount of funds accumulated in his bank account in Bangladesh. For example, if he has 100 000 Bangdaleshi Takas in his account. He will calculate two and half percent of 100 000 which is 2500.00 Bangladeshi Takas. If he wishes he may distribute this amount in Bangladeshi Takas as calculated above.
Alternately, he may distribute it in Pounds by converting the 2500 Bangladeshi Takas to Pounds according to the exchange rate on the day that the Zakaat was Waajib upon him and then distribute it. For example, the day that Zakaat was Waajib the rate was 100 Bangaleshi Takas for one Pound, thus he should pay or discharge 25 Pounds as Zakaat.
