Engaging In Dua Or Recitation Of The Quraan-e-Kareem During The Adhaan

Question

If someone was making Dua before the Athaan started, is it Makrooh to carry on making Dua while the Ataan is going on? Should he stop his Dua at the beginning of the Athaan?

What about reading Quraan-e- Kareem during the Athaan? Some Athaans are very long. To wait for 5 minutes is quite difficult at times.

Answer

If a person is outside the Masjid and the Adhaan begins whilst he is involved in Quraan-e-Kareem Tilaawat, Dua, etc, then this Amal should be suspended for the duration of the Adhaan, and the Adhaan should be answered.

However, if a person is in the Masjid and involved with Tilaawat or Dua at the time of Adhaan, then he can carry on.

In short, it will not be Makrooh for him to continue with his Ma’mulaat while he is the Masjid, but if he is outside the Masjid he should stop and reply to the Adhaan first, then he can continue with his Ma’mulaat.
