Question
Please advise on a person keeping fast in the Month of Ramadhaan, and this person is on dialysis 3 times a week.
Answer
Undergoing the treatment of dialysis does not break the fast, whether it be haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis.
If there is a genuine fear of becoming so weak that one will not be able to fast or there is a fear of the fasting having an adverse effect on the treatment as advised by an expert Muslim doctor then he will not be required to fast during the days of treatment. He will have to make up only for these missed fasts after the month of Ramadhaan. There is no need for Kaffaarah (60 consecutive fasts)..
