Question
I sell Arabic calligraphy frames etc. and I have heard that it is not permissible to hang up ayaat of Quraan in a room where one changes ones clothes. Please advise on that ruling.
Answer
Hanging frames of Quraanic Ayaat in a room wherein one changes one’s clothes must be avoided because this will be a means of disrespect to the Quraan-e-Majeed.
يجوز قربان المرأة في بيت فيه مصحف مستور ظاهره عدم جوازه إذا لم يشترط
“(It is permissible to have relations with one’s wife in a room in which the Quraan-e-Majeed is hidden/covered); it is apparent from this that when the condition (of the Quraan-e-Majeed being hidden/covered) is not found, it will be impermissible.”
From this it is understood that when the Quraan-e-Majeed is not put away in a shelf or covered, it will be impermissible to have relations in such a room due to it being disrespect to the Quraan-e-Majeed. So, in the case where Quraanic Ayaat are open and hung on the walls and one changes one’s clothes in such a room, will also be disrespect to the Quraan-e-Majeed and should be avoided.
