Imaam Making Salaam After One Rakaat In Taraweeh

Question

What is the ruling of the Qiraat if an Imam made Salam after one Rakah? Kindly advise the rulings if the Imam realises the mistake during the Salah time, as well as the ruling if he only is informed about it the next day?

Answer

If the Imam made Salaam after one Rak’at of Taraweeh, then the Taraweeh Salaah will become invalid. If he realized before the Taraweeh time ends, he should repeat that unit of Salaah again with the Muqtadees or if they have left, then by himself. However, if he realized after the time has ended, then he may read two Rak’at of Nafl by himself, the Muqtadees may also do the same

As for the Qiraat, there are two views regarding whether it would need to be repeated again or not to gain the virtue of a Khatami. To reconcile between the two views: If by repeating the Qiraat on the next day, it would cause inconvenience to the Muqtadees and it would be difficult for them to stand for that much longer, then it should not be repeated. However, if they can bear it, then the Imam should repeat it.
