Inhaling A Fragrance/Scent While Fasting

Question

I would like to find out if one inhales bukhoor or any type of fragrance intentionally or unintentionally will it break ones fast?

Answer

A fast is not nullified by intentionally or unintentionally inhaling a fragrance which is infused with the open air, regardless of whether the fragrance was emitted by burning scented sticks, or by the spraying of perfumes/air fresheners. Directly smelling a normal perfume that does not have perceptible vapour will not invalidate the fast.

If something with a perceptible body, such as the smoke of Bukhoor/Lobaan, burning scented sticks or the perceptible vapour of perfumes/air fresheners were intentionally and deliberately inhaled, the fast will be invalidated. The Qadha of each fast broken should be observed, Kaffaarah is not necessary.

If the smoke or vapour entered through the nose or throat unintentionally by a person who was passing by an environment of such type of smoke or vapour, the fast will not be invalidated.
