Question
Car insurance is mandatory in USA. You cannot buy or drive any vehicle without proof of car insurance. I know that’s okay since it’s mandatory, but now the question is that insurance comes in different policies,. You get liability that’s the least one to get, to have your car in order to run liability will only pay for expenses of the person you bumped not yours so you will have to fix your own car if someone hit you and ran away then you have to fix your own car and the insurance won’t help.
Then you get full coverage ,they pay for all expenses your car and the one you hit, and if someone hit and runs or hit you without insurance they will still fix your car. Will this second full coverage be jaiz? Some people say because it is an option above Zaroorat (necessity) it is not Jaiz. The full coverage is slightly more than liability but benefits you in such cases and liability is still expensive but a waste because in a case of such accidents you still pay out of own pocket.
Would there any exceptions for the benefit of Muslims or we have to stick with liability due to it being mandatory and paying the losses?
Answer
All forms of insurance are impermissible and are only condoned under compulsion. The requirement of mandatory vehicle insurance is fulfilled by insuring with the lowest form of cover; hence it is not permissible to opt for a policy with comprehensive cover.
