Musafaha (Shaking Hands) On The Day Of Eid

Question

Is the shaking of hands and Musafahaa after the Eid salaat permissible?

Answer

Hadhrat Moulana Rasheed Ahmad Gangohi (Rahmatullaahi Alaihi) mentions that to specify Musafahah and Mua’naqah on the day of Eid as a form of showing love and happiness is a Bida’t and Makrooh-e-Tahrimi; hence it will not be permissible.

However, if Musafahah is not done considering it as a special feature of the day of Eid but rather with the same reason as it is permissible on other days i.e. upon meeting someone daily, then it will be permissible because this Musafahah is being done as a Sunnah of meeting and greeting and not as a custom of Eid. Similarly Mua’naqah will be permissible with the same conditions as it is permissible on other days i.e. after a long absence.
