Performing Tayammum With Bricks Which Have Paint On Them

Question

Can we perform Tayammum with bricks that have paint and cement on them?

Answer

One can perform Tayammum on bricks that have paint and cement on them; with the proviso that the paint is not oil-based or made of something which is not genus of the earth.

Hence, one cannot make Tayammum on walls that are painted using oil-based paints. Notwithstanding this, if there is dust on the oil-based painted wall or anything on which one cannot perform Tayammum, one will be allowed to make Tayammum with that item. Moreover, in the present era, most paints are oil-based or made from something which is not from the genus of earth; therefore, one should refrain performing Tayammum on them.
