Posting Your Daily Tilawah Page On Social Media

Question

Some people post a picture of one page of Quraan Shareef daily onto their Public Social Media profiles calling it: Daily Tilawah. Hundreds if not thousands of people scroll past this, many times in a state of Janabah and many may be non-Muslim as well.

What is the Fatwa regarding this?

Answer

Whilst recitation of the holy Quraan and encouraging towards it are great acts of virtue, due consideration has to be given to the laws and etiquettes pertaining to the Quraan. Allah Ta’alah mentions in the Magnificent Quraan;

لَا يَمَسُّهُ إِلَّا الْمُطَهَّرُونَ

It is not touched except by the purified ones.

It would therefore be incorrect to post pictures of the pages of Quraan on social media profiles knowing that others would have to scroll past it. One could opt for other permissible and more effective means to encourage towards recitation of the Noble Quraan. It should also be borne in mind that the Quraan is no ordinary book, rather it is the word of the Greatest of Kings and as the saying goes ‘The word of the king is the king of words’. It is thus from the demands of ones Imaan that the Quraan be handled with utmost honour and respect.
