Sajdah-Tilaawat For An Aayat Recited By An Imaam

Question

If you hear a SajdaH ayah in the Fajr Salaah (e.g. Surah Sajdah) and you are not in the salaah do u have to make it?

Answer

Yes, it will be Wajib upon a person who heard an Ayah of Sajdah to make the Sajdah.

As for the queried scenario, if after hearing the Ayah of Sajdah you joined the Imaam before he made the
Sajdah Tilaawah, you will make the Sajdah with him and there will no need to make another Sajdah on your own. If you joined the Imaam in the Ruku of the Rakaat in which the Ayah of
Sajdah was read, then this will suffice for the Sajdah Tilaawah and there will no need to make another Sajdah on your own.

If you did not join the  Imaaam in that specific Rakaat (i.e.in the Ruku), then it will be Wajib upon you to perform the Sajdah Tilaawah for hearing an Ayah of Sajdah.
