Visiting The Family of The Deceased On Eid Day (First Eid)

Question

When a person dies, then people make it compulsory to visit the family of the deceased on Eid Day. Is there any basis for visiting the family of the deceased on the the first Eid after the demise of the deceased. Is there any basis for this action or is it a Bid’ah practice?

Answer

There is no basis for such a practice in Shariah; that it is incumbent upon the family members to visit the home of the deceased after the first Eid. Regarding such a practice as necessary will be considered as Bid’ah (innovation).
