Zakaat On The Possessions Of A Na-Baaligh (Immature) Child

Question

If a child that is not yet baaligh has money or jewellery above zakaah nisaab, does zakaah have to be given out of the child’s wealth or should the zakaah be paid by the parents or is there no zakaah until the child becomes baaligh?

Answer

There is no Zakaah on wealth fully owned by a child even if it exceeds the Nisaab.

When the child attains the age of puberty, only then will Zakaah be binding upon that wealth commencing from a
year after the date of  puberty. The parents do not have to pay Zakaah on  wealth which is fully owned by the child.
