There is Dua that is normally distributed by our Madrasah at the end of the Islamic year…. We would just like to know if there are any objections in this regard…
Are there Shar’ee proofs for or against the above?
Answer
Many practices and Wazeefas of our pious elders have proven beneficial and the desired results attained. However, these practices and Wazeefas are merely the experiences and tests of these pious Ulama and Mashaaikh (spiritual elders). Although it is permissible to act on these practices, it is not proven from the sources of Shari’ah, and therefore shall not be regarded as an established Sunnah from Rasulullah ﷺ. In conclusion, there is no harm in reciting these Du’aas as long as one does not deem them to be Sunnah.
However, we would like to suggest an alternative Du’aa which is authentic and mentioned in SahihAhaadith:
SayyidunaAbdullahIbn Hisham Radhiyallahu ‘Anhu reports that the Sahabah Radhiyallahu ‘Anhum would learn the following Du’aa for when the new month or new-year would begin:
O Allah, bring this [month or year] upon us with security, Imaan, safety, Islam, protection from shaytan, and the Pleasure of Ar-Rahmaan.
(Ref:Mu’jamus Sahabah of Baghawi, & Al-Mu’jamul Awsat of Tabarani, Hadith: 6237), ‘Allamah Haythami Rahimahullah has ruled the chain of Tabarani as sound (Hasan).
(Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 10 pg. 139-140)
Hafiz Ibn Hajar Rahimahullah has graded the chain that was quoted by ‘Allamah Baghawi for this narration as authentic (Sahih). (Al–Isabah, no. 5007)
This Du’aa has also been reported by SayyidunaAbdullah Ibnus Saib Radhiyallahu ‘Anhu as it is was the habit of the SahabahRadhiyallahu ‘Anhum.
(At-Targhib of Isbahani, Hadith: 1291, Chapter on the Du’aa for a new month and new-year)
