Building RDP Houses with Interest Money

Question

Someone has Riba Money and intends giving it to us after being advised by somebody else.

Will it be permissible to accept it?

INFORMATION

Among our communities we have very poor people – homeless people – reverts who are desperate and cannot bear the difficulties they face against their own families due to accepting Islam, and other challenges as well.

Can we build RDP homes with this Riba money for those desperate in need of shelter? The houses to be given to them.

Answer

Yes, you may become representatives of the owners of that interest money in spending it on the poor Muslims. However, it will not be permissible to use this money to build houses and then give these houses to the poor. One will have to give the money itself to the poor.

If you wish, you may give this money to a trustworthy poor person who will in turn build houses and give them to the poor.
