Reciting Surah Naas In The First Rakaat

Question

What should one do when one reeds surah naas in the first rakaat of a Sunnah, witr or fardh salaah consisting of 2 or 4 rakaats and only takes note of it in the second rakaat of the salaah 

Answer

If Surah Naas is read in the first Rakaat of any Salaah, then one should repeat it in the second Rakaat of Fardh and remaining (third and fourth) Rakaats of Sunan and Witr Salaah.

وإذا قرأ في الركعة الأولى {قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبّ النَّاسِ} (الناس: 1) ، ينبغي أن يقرأ في الركعة الثانية {قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبّ النَّاسِ} (الناس: 1) أيضاً؛ لأن قراءة سورة واحدة في الركعتين غير مكروهة (المحيط البرهاني في الفقه النعمان ج1 ص304)

(قَوْلُهُ لَا بَأْسَ أَنْ يَقْرَأَ سُورَةً إلَخْ) أَفَادَ أَنَّهُ يُكْرَهُ تَنْزِيهًا، وَعَلَيْهِ يُحْمَلُ جَزْمُ الْقُنْيَةِ بِالْكَرَاهَةِ، وَيُحْمَلُ فِعْلُهُ – عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ – لِذَلِكَ عَلَى بَيَانِ الْجَوَازِ، هَذَا إذَا لَمْ يُضْطَرَّ، فَإِنْ اُضْطُرَّ بِأَنْ قَرَأَ فِي الْأُولَى – {قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ} [الناس: 1]- أَعَادَهَا فِي الثَّانِيَةِ إنْ لَمْ يَخْتِمْ نَهْرٌ لِأَنَّ التَّكْرَارَ أَهْوَنُ مِنْ الْقِرَاءَةِ مَنْكُوسًا بَزَّازِيَّةٌ، وَأَمَّا لَوْ خَتَمَ الْقُرْآنَ فِي رَكْعَةٍ فَيَأْتِي قَرِيبًا أَنَّهُ يَقْرَأُ مِنْ الْبَقَرَةِ.
