Microblading

Question

The sickness I have makes your hair fall. Like when you do chemotherapy. I’ve never ever tweezed or waxed my eyebrows. But sadly now, because it’s falling off I don’t really have much left and now I’m forced to put make up on it to make eyebrows.  So, I was just wondering to make it easier if this kind of procedure is allowed. It would be easier for me.

The procedure is called micro blading.

I asked the lady if it’s anything like a tattoo n she said it’s not. What they do is make small slits, like they do in cupping but she uses a semi-permanent dye to fill them, so something like that, so the process only lasts for about 18 months.

Can I do the micro blading procedure due to my health issues?

Answer

Micro blading is a semi-permanent makeup procedure whereby hair like incision strokes are created along the eyebrow to attempt to either enhance, reshape or create a natural looking appearance on the brows. The procedure entails the use of a nano blade, which is dipped into a pigment that has been matched to natural hair colour and skin tone and is then glided along a sketched outline of the brow that has been drawn on and scrutinized beforehand. Whilst only penetrating into the upper skin, the pigment is deposited simultaneously with the creation of the hair like stroke leaving a feathered outline.

Also known by a variety of names such as embroidery, micro stroking, feather touch and hair like strokes, is a form of semi-permanent makeup that provides a means to partially or fully camouflage missing eyebrow hair with the appearance of simulated hair using fine deposits of cosmetic tattoo pigments. Over time the strokes can blur and fade and will need to be refreshed.

This technique is a process that may be used to improve or create eyebrow definition, to cover gaps of lost hair, to extend the eyebrows, or may be used as a full reconstruction if the brows have little/no hair. Each micro blading stroke is applied individually, allowing the therapist to control the shape, color and density of the completed eyebrows.

The treatment begins with developing the desired shape, then using individual tattoo strokes or ‘feathers’ in the area to plot the shape and style requested. The color choice is patient-specific and is mixed using a natural selection of micro pigments to complement hair color and skin tone to give the best look.

When done by a properly trained artist, Micro blading is performed by placing pigment or ink in the dermis with the use of a hand tool with attached needles fused together in a curvilinear grouping. Exactly the same as brow treatments using a machine, the micro blading technique involves drawing individual, crisp hair strokes that can be very natural looking. The needles used come in a variety of diameters so that the thickness of each individual hair stroke can be customized to each client depending on the width of their natural hairs as to make the micro blading process look more natural.

Micro blading is a form of cosmetic tattooing. Technicians usually use topical anaesthetics to limit discomfort and consequently like all forms of cosmetic tattooing if performed correctly the procedure causes minimal discomfort. Micro blading is a tattoo. Pigment is deposited into the dermis (not into the epidermis as so many techs are claiming. Were it placed in the epidermis it would slough off within 30–90 days, depending on age, as the epidermis continuously renews itself) so as to make the pigment last. The tattoo, as all other tattoos, can fade depending on multiple factors (quality of pigment/ink used, UV exposure, use of acids in skincare products, medications) but will never disappear completely.

Tattooing is permanent, whether it is on the body or face. Micro blading, although often marketed as semi-permanent, is permanent just like any other tattoo on the body. Periodic Color Boosts will be required to keep the colour fresh.

The purpose of Micro Blading and tattooing may differ, but the procedure and insertion technique is the same. The definition of a tattoo is: A permanent mark or design made on the body by the introduction of pigment or dye through punctures in the skin.

Moreover, micro blading, as mentioned above, is permanent just like any other tattoo on the body. Tattooing in all its forms and procedures is forbidden is Shari’ah. Rasulullaah Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam has cited severe warnings against those who practice tattooing.

Abdullah ibn Masood Radiallahu Anhu said: “Allah Ta’aala has cursed those women who practice tattooing and those who get themselves tattooed and those who pluck their eyebrows and those who file their teeth for beauty whereby changing the features created by Allah Ta’aala”.

Um Ya’qūb Radiallahu Anha said, “I have heard of you cursing such and such women?”

Abdullah Radiallahu Anhu said: “Why should I not curse those who were cursed by Rasulullaah Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam and are referred to in Allah Ta’aala’s Book?”

She Radiallahu Anha said to him: “I have read the whole Quran but I have not found such a thing.

Abdullah Radiallahu Anhu said, “If you had read it (carefully) you would have found it. Did you not read! “Hold fast to what (commands) the Rasool Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam gives you and refrain from what (actions) he prevents you (because whatever he instructs you is from Allah Ta’aala [Surah Hashar:7]?”

She replied “surely”. AbdullahRadiallahu Anhu said: “He RasulullaahSallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam forbade it”.

In conclusion, undergoing the micro blading treatment will not be permissible because of it being a form of tattooing. Therefore, the sister should look for an Halaal alternative or continue using normal (Halaal) make up as she only needs to beautify herself for her husband. Advise her to bear patience and thank Allah Ta’aala for the other countless bounties Allah Ta’aala has bestowed her with. Verily, Allah Ta’aala will reward her abundantly in this world and in the hereafter.
