Wedding Anniversaries

Question

Is it permissible to do anything special on the day being the anniversary?

Answer

Celebrating wedding anniversaries is a celebration that has been initiated by the Kuffar particularly in Europe according to our research. As Muslims we are required to refrain from their  celebrations, customs and ways.

Our spouses are a great bounty of Allah Ta’aala for which we should express gratitude to Allah Ta’aala at all times, in fact Allah states in the Quraan Sharif in  Surah Rum that the happiness and love that Allah Ta’aala places between the spouses is an indication of the great Qudrat and power of Allah Ta’aala. At the same time, we are also required to express gratitude and particular love to the wife for her kindness and continuous services that she renders to us at all times. This form of gratitude is not expressed once a year as practiced by the Kuffaar, rather it is expressed throughout the year.

In conclusion, we should totally abandon and discard all Kuffar customs and adopt the teachings of Allah and His Rasul Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam, thus we shouldn’t be doing anything special on one’s anniversary as celebrating one’s anniversary in the slightest way is actually in emulation of Kuffaar customs.
